Hmm...in Denver, I've never felt unsafe peeing, whether it be at bars, restaurants, a crowded shopping mall, a concert theater, or other locations. And I'm about the size of Laura-Ann, though I'm slightly younger.

I will agree with you about the spiro, though. The thing I always notice about them is the smell; they smell like "evil mints." And aside from being a diuretic, they give us salt cravings.
