Oh, the leopard can't change its spots that easily. The old "embrace, extend, extinguish" philosophy is still part of Microsoft's corporate DNA. .NET has always been about seizing more mindshare for Microsoft among developers, right back to its origins after Sun kept them from polluting Java with their proprietary extensions and Microsoft decided, "We'll take our marbles and go home, and build something just like Java, only different." I'd also venture that the only reason they build in support for non-Microsoft platforms in MAUI is (a) to keep the Justice Department from reopening their monopoly investigations, which is basically why they still support macOS at all, and (b) because they don't have a viable mobile platform of their own after Windows Phone tanked, despite the fact that they bought a huge chunk of Nokia to promote it.
