This is exactly what we need; however, we're not going to get there with the existing type of reactors alone. To fully realize the promise of nuclear power, we need something like Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactors (LFTRs), which use the more-abundant thorium as a fuel, rather than uranium. They're inherently safer; a Fukushima-type accident is impossible. And they produce no weaponizable byproducts. We could even employ the process heat from these reactors directly to produce synthetic petroleum from any convenient carbon source. This strategy facilitates not only carbon emissions reduction, but energy independence (we can then tell the "weird beards" of the Middle East that they can damned well DRINK their oil!), and a reduction in the overall cost of energy (remember, freedom + cheap energy = prosperity). I hope it's being taken into consideration.
